Your New Year Website Checklist to Build Success & Momentum All Year Long

Welcome to 2022 my friend! With the new year already begun it is time to set some success building intentions that support you and your business all year long. And one of the best ways I know to do this is with the New Year Website Checklist!

Before we dive into the techie stuff, let’s talk about intentions. (I am a certified life coach after all!) Intentions are all about what you want to create, and while most of us understand the value of setting intentions we don’t often take the time to actually do it.

Many of the clients I have worked with both as a life coach and web designer have the idea that setting intentions is a complicated detailed task, but it isn’t. It is actually pretty simple. Just ask yourself what it is you want to create in the new year, and trust the answer that comes up. And I know not everyone trusts the simple, so I will share more about intentions soon! Pinky promise!

But now it is time to give our website some love ❤.

The New Year Website Checklist

Now that you know what you want to create in the new year, it is time to show your website a little love in a way that supports these intentions. And believe it or not, every time I put love into my website, I attract a new client who checks all the boxes on my dream client list.

1. Verify your renewal dates

As you are looking to build on your business in the coming year, you are going to want to make sure that your website continues to be available without interruptions. The best way to do this is to make sure you are ready when your domain and hosting account are up for renewal. Seems like a no brainer, I know, but many people don’t know when these renewal dates are, and often have out dated payment information. And while your registrar and hosting company will email you to remind you when it is time to renew, many people fall behind on email and miss these emails.

So do yourself a favor and find those dates right now. Add them to your calendar with a reminder to verify payment information BEFORE the renewal date, so you don’t have to deal with interruptions.

2. Updated your Copyright date

This is an easy one to do! Simply go into your website footer area and update the date to 2022. If you want you can share a range of dates from your first year in business or simply just list 2022. How you do it is up to you, just get it done.

Doing this tells the world in a very simple way that you are an active business and looking for new customers. Whereas an old copyright date can make visitors question, if you are still in business and will you be the support they are looking for.

3. Review your call-to-action

The Call-to-Action is one of your most powerful tools on your website. It not only provides potential customers with the best first step to take when wanting to work with you, it also inspires you to think of the clients you want to attract.

Think about it… Let’s say your call-to-action is for potential clients to schedule a discovery call. When you see that button on your website, don’t you think about the dream clients waiting to click on that button? Even just for a second? If not, maybe you should, as that is going to create momentum towards what you want to build and attract.

And as for that call-to-action button, if it is not the best first step for potential customers to take, schedule some time to update this as soon as possible.

4. Review your service listing

Another place to focus in on intentions is in your service list. Just like with the discovery call, here is a place where you can put thought and energy into the clients you wish to attract, and what services serve them and you best. You have learned a lot of the past year as to what you love to do and who you love working with. These lessons most likely lead to some changes in the services you offer or how you offer them. Now is the perfect time to review and schedule time to update that list so that you are attracting the clients you want to work with.

5. Contact information

As you dream about clients being attracted to your service offerings, it is natural to imagine them reaching out and contacting you to get started. Now is the time to ask yourself, “what is the best way for clients to reach me?” and make sure that is reflected on your contact page.

It is also time to get rid of the methods that don’t work for you. When you look at your contact page do you have a contact form that doesn’t work well, social media accounts you rarely visit? Anything that isn’t supportive to the success you wish to build in 2022 should be removed, leaving a clear easy path for those potential clients to connect with you. One word of advice, make sure it is easy for potential clients to reach out and connect with you. If they have to guess how to do that, they will most likely leave your website and never come back.

6. Take a look at your images

Do the images on your website reflect the business you wish to attract? Does the picture of you look like you? If not, then it is definitely time to schedule time on your calendar to update the imagery on your website. And yes, simply swapping out images can create momentum in attracting your dream customers.

7. The Google Trifecta!

Now that you have made the most of your New Year Website Checklist and given your website love and attention, it is time to let Google know that you are still an active business ready to create some serious success in the new year.

  1. Verify your Google Analytics account is still connected
  2. Review your Google My Business listing to ensure everything is up to date
  3. Share some of your updated imagery to your Google My Business page as a post!

All of these steps tells Google you are actively working your business and in turn boosting your online visibility. And they are all FREE! So if you are not taking advantage of these free options, schedule some time to get them done and open yourself up to even more success!
