Discover why your website needs legal policies and how to get them easily.
It is Legal Love month here at Web Designs by Teresa and weirdly enough it is one of my favorite months of the year! Why? Well partially because I am just nerdy like that, but mainly because Website Legal Policies is one of the most important topics a business should address, and one of the most ignored! So today I am here to share with you what policies you need for your website, as well as why your website needs legal policies. Oh and I am going to share how you can make it easy-peasy to implement in minutes!
Why are website policies so important?
Privacy laws are not just a thing in the EU any longer. Since the initial adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR compliance) [1] many other countries have adopted similar requirements, and now so have states right here in the United States.
Here is a look at the Privacy Laws in effect in the United States as of May 16, 2022 [2]
And more states are currently planning on implementing privacy laws in the near future.
What do these laws require of you?
It depends on the law that was passed. To quote my friends at Termageddon... [3]
"Each of these laws has unique requirements as well as unique penalties for not complying. Some states are proposing businesses be fined over $5,000 per infringement (per website visitor)."
I don't know about you, but I don't have that kind of cash laying around and if I did I wouldn't want to part with it because my website was missing vital, information.
What Policies Do You Need For Your Website?
1. Privacy Policy
This documents how you collect, use, and disclose personally identifiable information.
2. Terms & Conditions
This is a statement that details the rules of using your website.
3. Disclaimer
Which limits the liabilities that a website owner may be responsible for.
4. Cookie Policy
The Cookie Policy explains the types of cookies you use on your website.
My head hurts! How do I make this easy?
My head is hurting too my friend, but thankfully, I don't have to go to Law School to protect my website. There are lots of solutions out there to help you add policies to your website. Including:
- Hiring a lawyer to generate policies
- Purchasing templates (that will soon be out dated)
- Finding free templates (that will soon be out dated and may not even protect you today)
- My favorite solution Termageddon who provides you with website policies that automatically update as laws change. (Use Promo Code: TERESA and save 10% off your first year annual payment)
Why I love and recommend Termageddon
There are so many reasons I love this company. From their customer centered approach, which is second to none, to the affordability of protection.
But what I love most is that I do not have to stress or research new privacy laws because they do that for me, and I don't have to worry about updating my policies as new laws go into affect because again, they do that for me.
Full on affiliate discloser!
Yes I am an affiliate with Termageddon, and if they had no affiliate program this blog would say the same thing.
I recommend Termageddon because I believe in their company and all that they are doing to make their corner of the world a better place.
